Luminaire has long been a space where design is not simply displayed, but rather experienced, enveloping the spaces through which we move.
In an evening defined by elegance and creativity, Luminaire Los Angeles celebrated the arrival of B&B Italia, a pioneering force in innovative, contemporary design since 1966, and the unveiling of a monumental exhibition by Ian Rayer-Smith, a British painter whose path to art emerged later in life, manifesting work that is both gestural and sublime.
This event marked the beginning of a new partnership in Los Angeles, one that gestures toward a future where art, design, and luxury exist in an intimate yet powerful dialogue.

Guests moved through a landscape of form and feeling, encountering B&B Italia’s timeless collections alongside Rayer-Smith’s abstract and powerfully poignant paintings. An exhibition of objects and art and an experience of convergence, design and painting shaped perception, emotion, and the lived experience of space itself.
Rayer-Smith’s work, defined by presence and atmosphere, extends naturally into the language of interiors. His paintings assert themselves as spatial anchors, shaping rhythm, perception, and emotional tone. In parallel, B&B Italia’s pieces, where technological precision meets sculptural restraint, transcend function, becoming instruments through which space is composed.
Together, these works operate less as objects and more as environmental forces. They align with a deeper ambition within contemporary design, to choreograph not how a space looks, for certain, but even more importantly, how it feels.

The evening unfolded as a living conversation between disciplines, materials, and the individuals who shape the design world. Designers, collectors, and cultural thinkers gathered in an atmosphere charged with curiosity and exchange, embodying Luminaire’s enduring mission to create experiences that move beyond the expected and into the essential.
Elevating the occasion were thoughtful partnerships that brought additional layers of refinement. We extend a heartfelt thank you to Cinco Oro Tequila, who lent a quiet sophistication to the bar, and to Petrossian, who offered exquisite caviar pairings. Each detail reinforced a shared commitment to craftsmanship and sensory experience in the company of great design.

At Luminaire, we believe design is most powerful when shared. The festive night at Luminaire Los Angeles was an invitation to designers, clients, and visionaries to engage in a new dimension of living, one where innovation and artistry converge in form and feeling, where earnest collaboration gives rise to profound environments that are at once refined, expressive, and deeply human.
We invite you to discover the enduring vision of B&B Italia and step into a curated world where contemporary design meets artistic expression. Through a private consultation or a visit to our Los Angeles Showroom, experience the collection as a whole, an environment to move through, not just observe, and begin to imagine how these pieces might shape the character, rhythm, and feeling of your own space.
Cassina Chairs - The Collectors' Guide
Few furniture makers have shaped the chair as a cultural object the way Cassina has. From their earliest collaborations with the European avant-garde to their ongoing stewardship of the twentieth century's most consequential seating designs, the Meda-based manufacturer remains the standard against which Italian furniture brands are measured. This guide surveys the Cassina chairs we carry and the ideas embedded in each one.

The Cassina Cab Armchair: When Leather Becomes Structure
Mario Bellini's Cab Armchair for Cassina, introduced in 1977, proposed something the furniture world had not seen before: leather not as a covering, but as a load-bearing skin. This is a study in how a single material can rewrite the logic of an entire object, and why that object still holds its ground in contemporary design culture.
