Davide Groppi was born in 1963 in Piacenza, Italy, and began his design journey through mechanical drafting before turning to lighting in the late 1980s. In 1988 he opened a small workshop in the historic centre of Piacenza where he began inventing and producing his first lamps under his own name. Groppi’s work is guided by a deep curiosity toward light as a material of expression, using simplicity, lightness, emotion, and invention as the fundamental components of his designs.
Over the years he has developed original lighting projects and installations that are distributed worldwide and celebrated for their poetic minimalism and conceptual clarity. Groppi’s collaborations include work with brands such as De Padova, Boffi, Paola Lenti, and Christofle. His work has been recognised with prestigious awards including multiple Compasso d’Oro honours for designs such as Nulla, Sampei, and TeTaTeT, and continues to feature in international architecture, hospitality, and cultural projects.
