Giulio Cappellini was born in 1954 in Milan, Italy, into a family of furniture manufacturers. He earned a degree in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano and later studied business management before joining his family’s company in 1979 as art director. Under his leadership, Cappellini evolved from a regional furniture maker to a global platform for contemporary design and innovation.
Cappellini’s vision has been driven by curiosity, passion and a deep belief in the value of diverse design voices. He became internationally respected as a talent scout, championing the early work of designers such as Jasper Morrison, Tom Dixon, Marc Newson, Marcel Wanders and the Bouroullec brothers. His work spans furniture, interior projects, exhibitions and education, and he lectures at design schools and institutions worldwide. In 2022 he received the Compasso d’Oro Career Award for his lasting contributions to design culture.
