In 1954, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni asked a simple question: what is the minimum a floor lamp needs to be? The Luminator is their answer. A slender painted iron stem rises from a galvanized metal tripod. A bare bulb faces upward. There is no shade, no decoration, no gesture toward ornament.
The lamp illuminates by reflection, washing the ceiling in soft, diffused light that fills a room without ever announcing itself. This was not a provocation. It was a conviction, one the Castiglioni brothers held throughout their careers, that the most resolved design solution tends to be the most direct one.
