Snoopy Table Lamp
Made by Flos
Designed by Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Achille Castiglioni
Designed in 1967 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, the Snoopy is one of the most recognized objects in twentieth-century Italian design. Its logic is immediate: a wide, slightly convex opal glass disc softens and directs light downward, while an enameled steel reflector controls spill with quiet precision. Beneath it all, a solid Carrara marble base grounds the composition with the kind of cool, weighty authority that no engineered material quite replicates.
- Opal glass diffuser disc for soft, directional illumination
- Enameled steel reflector in a choice of finishes
- Solid Carrara marble base
- Touch-sensitive dimmer integrated into the silhouette
The Castiglioni brothers regarded every object as a problem of logic first, aesthetics second. With Snoopy, those two concerns resolve into one. The lamp reads as sculpture from across a room and as a precision instrument at the desk. Produced continuously by Flos since its introduction, it remains a reference point for how form and function can share the same, unhurried gesture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who designed the Flos Snoopy lamp and when?
The Snoopy lamp was designed by brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and introduced in 1967. The Castiglionis were among the central figures of postwar Italian design, known for rigorously functional objects that carry a distinct wit and economy of form.
What type of light does the Snoopy lamp produce?
The lamp produces direct, downward-focused light diffused through its curved opal glass disc, making it well suited to task lighting on a desk or side table. The touch-sensitive dimmer allows precise control over brightness without altering the lamp's silhouette.
Is the marble base on the Snoopy lamp genuine Carrara marble?
Yes. The base is solid Carrara marble, quarried in Tuscany, chosen by the Castiglionis for its density and visual weight. Its cool white surface provides a grounding counterpoint to the graphic black-and-white reflector above.
Is the Flos Snoopy lamp still in production?
The Snoopy has been in continuous production by Flos since its 1967 debut, a rare distinction in the industry. Each lamp is manufactured in Italy according to the original specifications.
How does the Snoopy lamp fit into a contemporary interior?
Its reduced palette of black, white, and natural marble allows it to read as both a functional instrument and a sculptural object on a desk, console, or bedside surface. Architects and designers often specify it precisely because its form has not required revision in over fifty years.
