Bilboquet Lamp
Made by Flos
Philippe Malouin designed the Bilboquet around a single, precise idea: a lamp that moves the way intuition does. Two cylindrical polycarbonate forms meet at a magnetic steel sphere, allowing the head to pivot and settle at will, without tools or tension.
The polycarbonate carries its own story. Derived from a by-product of paper production, it is pigmented through its full depth, holding color the way stone does, with no surface coating to chip or fade over time. The material is built to ISCC standards, contains no glued components, and is fully recyclable at the end of its life.
- Full-depth pigmented polycarbonate body, color consistent through the entire material
- Magnetic steel sphere joint with PVD protective treatment
- Direct-lighting LED source with freely adjustable head
- 2-meter cable with locking slit integrated into the base
Malouin's practice is defined by a rigorous attention to how objects are made and what they are made of. The Bilboquet is, in that sense, characteristic: a formal gesture that also functions as a quiet argument for responsible material thinking.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Bilboquet's magnetic joint work?
The lamp head is held in position by a magnetic steel sphere at the junction of the two cylindrical forms. This allows the head to pivot freely and settle at any chosen angle without mechanical fasteners, levers, or tools.
What is full-depth pigmented polycarbonate?
Rather than applying color as a surface coating, the pigment is introduced throughout the entire thickness of the polycarbonate during production. The result is a material whose color cannot chip, scratch, or fade in the way painted or lacquered surfaces can.
Is the Bilboquet lamp recyclable?
Yes. The Bilboquet is built to ISCC sustainability standards, contains no glued components, and is designed to be fully recyclable at the end of its functional life.
Who is Philippe Malouin?
Philippe Malouin is a Canadian designer based in London whose work spans furniture, lighting, and spatial design. He is known for a rigorous, process-driven approach in which material logic and manufacturing method are inseparable from the final form.
What light source does the Bilboquet use?
The Bilboquet uses a direct-lighting LED source integrated into the adjustable head, combining energy efficiency with focused, directional light output.
