Beam Table
Made by Established & Sons
Designed by Konstantin Grcic
The I-beam is one of modern engineering's most recognizable structural forms. Konstantin Grcic took that girder and made it furniture, arriving at the Beam Table in 2019 for Established & Sons - a table system that wears its industrial logic openly without apology.
Rolled steel forms the frame, giving the table a clear architectural presence that reads differently at dining height versus standing height. Both configurations share the same structural honesty: the profile is the design. Lengths vary to suit everything from an intimate domestic dining room to a full-scale conference or live-work environment.
Top materials offer a considered range of finish and texture:
- Oak veneer, warm and grain-forward
- American walnut veneer, darker and more refined in tone
- Black Fenix, a matte thermosetting resin surface that resists fingerprints and minor abrasion
Frame colors extend the range of possible pairings, and optional lockable castors introduce mobility without compromising the table's rigorous visual identity. Beam is made to order, which means each configuration is assembled to specification rather than pulled from stock.
Grcic has spent his career navigating the territory between industrial production and design culture. Beam sits comfortably in that space: a working table with the presence of a sculptural object.

Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are available for the Beam Table top?
The Beam Table top is offered in oak veneer, American walnut veneer, and black Fenix. Fenix is a matte thermosetting resin laminate valued for its soft texture and resistance to fingerprints and light surface abrasion.
What is Fenix and why is it used on this table?
Fenix is an Italian-made thermosetting resin surface applied to high-pressure laminate. Its matte finish absorbs light rather than reflecting it, and the surface is resistant to fingerprints, dry scratches, and common household solvents, making it well suited to a table intended for intensive daily use.
What configurations does the Beam Table come in?
Beam is available in both dining and standing heights, across multiple lengths. Frame color and top material are also selectable, and optional lockable castors can be specified for workspaces that require the table to be repositioned.
Who is Konstantin Grcic and what defines his design approach?
Konstantin Grcic is a Munich-based industrial designer whose work engages rigorously with production methods, material behavior, and structural logic. Trained at the Royal College of Art in London, he founded KGID in 1991 and has produced work for some of the most significant European design manufacturers. His designs tend to expose rather than conceal the logic of how things are made.
Is the Beam Table suitable for commercial or contract settings?
Yes. The rolled steel frame and hard-wearing top options, particularly the black Fenix surface, make Beam appropriate for conference, workshop, and live-work environments. The standing-height configuration and optional lockable castors further extend its utility in professional settings.
