20 Casiers Standard P.E.N.
Made by Cassina
Designed by Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier, and Pierre Jeanneret
In 1925, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret conceived the Casiers Standard for the Pavillon de l'Esprit Nouveau, a pavilion that proposed nothing less than a new way of inhabiting space. The containers were not furniture in any traditional sense. They were architecture at a domestic scale, modular volumes that could partition, organize, and define a room without touching the ceiling.
The 75 x 75 x 37.5 cm module is the fundamental unit. From it, arrangements accumulate into furnished partitions, freestanding shelving walls, or quiet storage alcoves. Shelves adjust across five positions, preserving the flexibility that was central to the original vision.
Cassina relaunched the Casiers Standard in 2016 as part of the Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand collection. The reissue refines the contemporary finish while honoring the proportional logic of the prototype. Each arrangement carries the discipline of a system conceived by an architect, not a furniture designer.
