Charlotte Perriand found her source material not in studios or galleries, but in the working objects of the French Alps. The simple milking stools used by mountain shepherds, turned by hand from local wood, carried an economy of form that she recognized as something worth preserving. The Tabouret Stools are that recognition made permanent.
The family offers two distinct characters. The Tabouret Berger sits low to the ground on three gently tapered, hand-turned legs, its form close to the vernacular original. The Tabouret Méribel stands taller, its tripod base angled outward with a structural confidence that shifts the piece from rustic reference to considered design. Both share a turned seat with a subtle central depression, shaped to receive the body with quiet attentiveness.
Originally designed for Perriand's own chalet and first presented in 1955, the stools embody her conviction that good design belongs to everyday life, not to ceremony. Cassina now produces them with the same respect for material and process that Perriand brought to the originals, available in three wood finishes across both heights.
