Committee Chair with Armrests

Pierre Jeanneret designed the Committee Chair in the 1950s for the government and administrative buildings of Chandigarh, India, a city master-planned by Le Corbusier. The design was later adapted for the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, cementing its place in the history of modern institutional furniture.

Cassina holds the official license to reissue Pierre Jeanneret's Chandigarh furniture and works from archival documentation to preserve the proportions, joinery methods, and material character of the originals. The reissue is not a reproduction in the decorative sense, but a faithful continuation of the design's constructive logic.

Osaka is a structured textile in Cassina's material offering, valued for its weight and surface grain. On the Committee Chair, it softens the rectilinear oak frame without diminishing the chair's formal composure, adding tactile warmth to a silhouette that is otherwise precise and architectural.

The chair's proportions and upright posture make it appropriate for both dining and desk contexts. Its institutional origins mean it was designed for sustained, attentive sitting, which translates well to residential dining rooms, studies, and professional interiors.

While Le Corbusier is the more widely recognized name, Jeanneret was responsible for much of the on-site furniture design at Chandigarh and brought a warmer, more craft-oriented sensibility to the work.
