Erwan Bouroullec designed the Spring armchair for Cappellini as an exercise in structural economy. A slender frame in satined stainless steel holds a rigid polyurethane shell with quiet authority, the silhouette reading as both spare and generous depending on the angle.
The shell is constructed from rigid polyurethane foam with integrated metal inserts, then padded for comfort and set on feet cast in anthracite-coloured polyethylene. The contrast between the warm upholstery and the cool precision of the steel base is deliberate - a dialogue between industrial process and tactile intimacy.
Covers are available in a curated selection of fabrics and leathers, and the front and back of the shell may be finished in different colours or materials. That option is not merely decorative. It invites a considered choice about how a piece presents itself from across a room versus how it feels from within.
