Nuage Vases
Made by Vitra
Designed by Erwan & Ronan Bouroullec
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have long worked at the boundary between object and architecture, and the Nuage Vases sit precisely at that edge. The name, French for "cloud," speaks directly to the silhouette: a cluster of open tubes gathered into a single organic mass, each aperture ready to receive a stem and coax an arrangement into something closer to sculpture than decoration.
Available in anodized aluminum and ceramic, the two material expressions offer distinct atmospheres. The aluminum carries an industrial precision softened by its matte surface. The ceramic grounds the form in a quieter, more domestic register. Both reward close attention.
- Designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra
- Available in anodized aluminum or ceramic
- Multi-tube cloud silhouette structures floral arrangements sculpturally
- Suited to standalone display or grouped compositions
The Bouroullecs founded their Paris studio in 1999 and have since produced work for Vitra, Kvadrat, Hay, and Cappellini, among others. Their practice is defined by a persistent curiosity about how objects inhabit space, and how modest interventions in form can shift the character of an entire room.

Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are the Nuage Vases made from?
The Nuage Vases are produced in two distinct materials: anodized aluminum and ceramic. The aluminum version has a precise, matte industrial quality, while the ceramic edition offers a softer, more tactile presence.
Are the Nuage Vases functional for holding flowers?
Yes. Each tube within the cloud-form silhouette is an individual aperture designed to hold a stem, allowing the vase to structure a floral arrangement sculpturally rather than simply containing it.
Who are Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec?
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are French designers who established their studio in Paris in 1999. Their work spans furniture, textiles, lighting, and objects for some of the most respected European design manufacturers, consistently exploring the relationship between form, use, and everyday living.
Can the Nuage Vases be grouped together?
The modular character of the Nuage form lends itself naturally to grouped compositions. Placing multiple vases together creates a larger cloud-like arrangement that reads as a cohesive installation rather than a collection of separate objects.
How does the Nuage Vase relate to Vitra's broader design approach?
Vitra has collaborated with the Bouroullecs across multiple product categories, sharing a commitment to objects that are both formally considered and genuinely useful. The Nuage Vases reflect that ongoing dialogue, sitting comfortably within a domestic context while carrying the precision of a designed artifact.
