Vases Découpage, Disque
Made by Vitra
Designed by Erwan & Ronan Bouroullec
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have long explored the boundary between object and image, and the Vases Découpage series is among their most direct expressions of that dialogue. The Disque variant pairs a hand-glazed ceramic vessel with abstract, disc-shaped cut-out elements - flat forms that lean, overlap, and recompose around the vase to create something closer to a still life than a conventional decorative object.
The glazed surface carries a quiet depth, shifting between matte and reflective depending on the light and angle of view. The cut-out components introduce a graphic sensibility rooted in the Bouroullecs' longstanding interest in paper, drawing, and two-dimensional composition brought into three dimensions.
- Hand-glazed ceramic construction
- Abstract disc cut-out elements for variable arrangement
- Conceived as both a functional vessel and a sculptural composition
- Designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra
Each arrangement is left to the owner. The Disque invites a kind of authorship - small decisions of placement and angle that shift the character of a shelf, a table, or a room.

Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are used in the Vases Découpage Disque?
The Vases Découpage Disque is made from hand-glazed ceramic. The glazing process introduces slight variations in surface texture and tone, meaning each piece carries its own character.
How do the cut-out disc elements work with the vase?
The disc-shaped cut-out elements are designed to be arranged around or alongside the vase, allowing the user to compose different configurations. They can be layered, repositioned, or used independently to create a sculptural grouping.
Who are Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec?
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are French brothers and design partners whose practice, based in Paris, has produced some of the most quietly influential objects and furniture of the past two decades. Their work spans furniture, lighting, and decorative objects for manufacturers including Vitra, Flos, and Established & Sons.
Can the Disque vase hold water and flowers?
Yes, the Disque vase functions as a working vessel for cut flowers. It is equally well suited to display as a standalone sculptural object without floral arrangement.
How does the Découpage series fit within Vitra's broader design ethos?
Vitra has long commissioned work that sits at the intersection of art and function, and the Découpage series reflects that position. The collaboration with the Bouroullec brothers extends a relationship built on shared attention to craft, proportion, and the cultural significance of the domestic object.
