Petites Lentilles
Made by Catellani & Smith
Designed by Enzo Catellani
Enzo Catellani has long treated light as a material in its own right, shaping it with the same attention a sculptor brings to bronze or stone. Petites Lentilles is among his most considered gestures: a large oval of untreated brass that traces a slow orbit in space, its surface punctuated by small transparent lenses held in individual brass fittings.
The form reads differently depending on the hour and angle. By day, the oval asserts itself as an object of quiet weight. After dark, twenty-two LED elements along its circumference animate the lenses into points of warm, amplified light, while an upward-facing LED source at the white base washes the ceiling above.
- Untreated brass oval, approximately 120 x 60 cm
- Twenty-two LED elements at 2700K along the oval
- Upward LED source at 3000K from the base
- Independent wireless dimming for base and oval circuits
- 200 cm suspension cable, cut to size
- Available for 110V or 230V
Made in Italy, each piece carries the materiality of brass that will shift in character with time, developing a patina particular to its environment. The lamp is made to order, reflecting the atelier sensibility that has defined Catellani & Smith since its founding in Bergamo.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the finish of the Petites Lentilles brass oval?
The oval is made from untreated brass, meaning it carries no protective coating or surface treatment. Over time it will develop a natural patina influenced by its environment and exposure to light and air.
Can the base and oval be dimmed separately?
Yes. Petites Lentilles offers independent wireless dimming for the base LED source and the oval LED circuit, allowing each to be adjusted independently for different atmospheric conditions.
What are the color temperatures of the LED sources?
The upward-facing base emits at 3000K, while the twenty-two lenses along the brass oval operate at 2700K, producing a warm and layered quality of light.
Is Petites Lentilles made to order?
Yes, the piece is produced to order at the Catellani & Smith atelier in Bergamo, Italy. Lead times vary, and the suspension cable is cut to the specified length at the time of production.
Who is the designer of Petites Lentilles?
Petites Lentilles was designed by Enzo Catellani, founder of Catellani & Smith. Catellani trained as a goldsmith and sculptor, and his approach to lighting is rooted in the direct manipulation of metal and light as expressive materials.
