Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec positioned the piece at the intersection of industrial precision and traditional craft, a pairing that gives it an almost structural gravity.
An aluminum arm, engineered to exacting tolerances, holds a hand-blown glass shade aloft above a solid marble base. The tension between these two production methods, one rigorously manufactured, one made breath by breath, is the lamp's central proposition. Glass is available in gray or amber; the base in Carrara white or Marquina black marble, each pairing shifting the lamp's atmosphere considerably.
The diffused light that passes through the blown glass is soft and enveloping, without the harshness of a direct source. Proportions are deliberate: the lamp reads as sculpture when unlit, and as a presence when on. It suits collector interiors, working desks, and considered living spaces in equal measure.
