Gelato Lamp
Made by Established & Sons
Carlo Nason is a name inseparable from the history of Murano glass. Born into the Nason glassmaking dynasty on the island of Murano, he spent decades at Mazzega refining a practice where heat, breath, and gravity determine form. The Gelato Lamp carries that lineage forward, translated into a contemporary object for Established & Sons.
The lamp is hand-blown from Murano glass, its softly rounded silhouette layered and voluminous in a way that only free-blown technique allows. No mold produces these proportions. Each piece holds the particular gesture of its making, a faint record of the glassblower's breath and the furnace's pull.
The form reads differently depending on the light. Unlit, it is a compact sculptural object with a quiet, milky depth. When illuminated, the glass diffuses warmth evenly through its body, the glow pooling at the curves and fading toward the edges. It functions equally well as a bedside presence or a considered accent on a writing desk or shelf.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Carlo Nason and what is his connection to Murano glass?
Carlo Nason was born into one of Murano's most distinguished glassmaking families and spent formative years at the Mazzega furnace, where he developed a practice grounded in traditional Venetian technique. His work spans decades and ranges from historic Mid-Century lighting to contemporary sculptural objects, always rooted in the physical intelligence of free-blown glass.
Is the Gelato Lamp hand-blown, and does that affect consistency?
Yes, the Gelato Lamp is hand-blown from Murano glass, which means each piece is subject to natural variation in form, surface, and tone. These differences are intrinsic to the process, not imperfections, and are part of what distinguishes the object from industrially produced lighting.
What kind of light quality does the Gelato Lamp produce?
The layered Murano glass body diffuses light softly and evenly, producing a warm ambient glow rather than direct illumination. It works well as a secondary light source in a room, creating atmosphere without glare.
What is Established & Sons known for as a design brand?
Established & Sons is a British design company founded in 2005 with a focus on commissioning work from significant contemporary designers and artists. The brand occupies a space between collectible design and functional production, often collaborating with figures who have a strong point of view and a defined cultural context.
Can the Gelato Lamp be used in contract or hospitality settings?
The lamp is well-suited to hospitality and contract environments where considered, artisanal objects are part of the design intent. Its scale and diffused output make it appropriate for guest rooms, lounge areas, or any setting where atmosphere and craft carry equal weight.
