Gold Moon JC/IC Pendant Lamp
Made by Catellani & Smith
Designed by Enzo Catellani
Enzo Catellani built his practice around a single conviction: that light is not a utility but a gesture. The Gold Moon pendant is a direct expression of that belief. Each irregular disc is shaped and finished by hand, its exterior rendered in matte black while the interior carries a gold-colored leaf surface that catches and returns light with quiet generosity.
At the heart of the composition, a copper curl cradles an interchangeable LED source. The curl is both structural and expressive, directing a 2700K, CRI 90 output toward the gold interior so the disc itself becomes the , not merely its housing. The effect is atmospheric rather than directive, closer to candlelight than to conventional pendant illumination.
Designed specifically for plasterboard ceilings, the Gold Moon is available in two installation models and can be arranged in constellations of varying density and scale. A slender black wire keeps the suspension visually weightless. Whether deployed as a single accent or grouped across a ceiling plane, each piece reads as an object of craft before it reads as a fixture.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does JC/IC mean for the Gold Moon pendant?
JC and IC refer to two distinct installation configurations designed for plasterboard ceilings. JC denotes a junction-box compatible mounting, while IC indicates an insulation-contact rated installation. The choice depends on the ceiling construction and local building requirements.
Can Gold Moon pendants be grouped or clustered?
Yes. The Gold Moon is conceived as a modular composition. Multiple discs can be suspended at varied heights and densities to create atmospheric ceiling constellations, a common approach in dining rooms, hotel lobbies, and corridor installations.
What is the color rendering index (CRI) of the Gold Moon?
The Gold Moon operates at CRI 90, meaning it renders colors with a high degree of accuracy relative to natural light. Combined with the 2700K warm white output, this makes it well-suited to residential and hospitality environments where skin tones and materials need to read correctly.
How is the gold leaf finish applied, and will it vary between pieces?
Each disc is finished by hand, so subtle variation in the gold-leaf interior is inherent to the process. Catellani & Smith treats this irregularity as a design quality rather than a defect, ensuring that no two pieces are identical.
Is the LED source in the Gold Moon replaceable?
Yes. The LED is interchangeable, housed within the copper curl at the center of the disc. This allows the light source to be serviced or updated without replacing the entire fitting, which is a practical consideration for long-term installations.
