Gina Chair
Made by Edra
Designed by Jacopo Foggini
Jacopo Foggini works almost exclusively with polycarbonate, a material he has spent decades pushing toward something closer to sculpture than furniture. The Gina Chair is among his most expressive explorations of that process.
Each seat and back panel is hand-woven from colored polycarbonate filaments, producing a dense, lace-like mesh that refracts light differently depending on the hour, the angle, and the room. The effect is never static. What reads as a graphic silhouette from across a room dissolves into translucency up close, revealing the layered depth of the weaving beneath.
The structure and the ornament are the same gesture. Removable legs in painted wood, finished in semi-gloss black, ground the piece with quiet formality, offering a considered contrast to the luminous body above.

Frequently Asked Questions
What material is the Gina Chair made from?
The seat and back of the Gina Chair are hand-woven from polycarbonate filaments, a thermoplastic material Jacopo Foggini has worked with throughout his career. Polycarbonate is highly resistant to impact and UV degradation, and its translucency allows it to interact with light in ways that are visually distinctive. The legs are wood, finished in a semi-gloss black paint.
Is the polycarbonate weaving done by hand?
Yes. Foggini's polycarbonate pieces are produced through a painstaking hand-crafting process in which filaments are shaped and layered while warm, giving each piece a degree of individual character. No two chairs are precisely identical.
Who is designer Jacopo Foggini?
Jacopo Foggini is a Milan-based artist and designer known for his singular use of polycarbonate as a sculptural medium. His work sits at the intersection of craft and contemporary art, and has been collected by museums and private collectors internationally. He has collaborated with Edra on several pieces that exemplify this approach.
Are the legs of the Gina Chair removable?
Yes, the legs are designed to be removable, which simplifies shipping and installation without compromising the structural integrity of the piece once assembled.
How should polycarbonate furniture be cleaned and maintained?
Polycarbonate surfaces should be wiped with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or ammonia-based products, which can cloud or scratch the surface. Mild soap and water is generally sufficient for routine care.
