Domingos Tótora works from Maria da Fé, a small town in the mountains of Minas Gerais, where he developed a material language entirely his own. Discarded cardboard is broken down into pulp, blended with soil and natural binders, then hand-pressed and dried into relief forms that carry the memory of the land around them.

The Disque Friso Brown takes its geometry from observation. The undulating ridges across its surface echo the contoured coffee fields and rolling hills visible from Tótora's studio. Brown is not a neutral here. It is the precise tone of the earth the work is made from, giving the piece an organic coherence that paint or glaze could never achieve.
