Humberto Campana

Born 1953 | Brazil

Humberto Campana was born in 1953 in Rio Claro, São Paulo, Brazil. He studied law before turning to design and sculpture in the early 1980s, developing a practice rooted in experimentation with materials and handmade processes. In 1983 he founded Estudio Campana in São Paulo and later began collaborating with his brother Fernando Campana, forming one of the most influential partnerships in contemporary design.

Together, the Campana Brothers gained international recognition for transforming ordinary materials such as rope, cardboard, wood, and found objects into expressive furniture and collectible design pieces. Their work blends Brazilian craft traditions with a playful, unconventional aesthetic and has been exhibited in major museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Humberto’s work continues to influence contemporary design through its inventive use of materials and its celebration of creativity and cultural identity.
