BM1069 Tray
Made by Carl Hansen & Søn
Designed by Børge Mogensen
Børge Mogensen approached even the smallest objects with the same rigor he brought to furniture. The BM1069 Tray reflects that discipline: clean lines, softly rounded edges, and a silhouette that resolves quietly into its surroundings rather than competing with them.
Crafted from untreated, FSC-certified teak, the tray carries the warmth and grain variation inherent to the wood. Left untreated, the surface is allowed to develop its own patina over time, deepening in character with use. Teak's natural oils make it equally at home outdoors on a terrace as on a dining table or sideboard.

Frequently Asked Questions
What wood is the BM1069 Tray made from?
The BM1069 Tray is made from untreated, FSC-certified teak. Teak is prized for its natural oil content, dimensional stability, and resistance to moisture, which makes it well-suited to both indoor settings and outdoor environments.
Can the BM1069 Tray be used outdoors?
Yes. Teak's natural oils provide inherent weather resistance, and the untreated finish means the tray can be used on a terrace or in a garden without special treatment. Over time, exposure to the elements will cause the wood to develop a silver-grey patina.
Who designed the BM1069 Tray?
The BM1069 was designed by Børge Mogensen, one of the most consequential figures in Danish modernism. Mogensen studied under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy and developed a practice grounded in functional clarity, careful proportion, and respect for materials.
How should untreated teak be maintained?
Untreated teak requires minimal care. For indoor use, occasional wiping with a damp cloth is sufficient. If you wish to preserve the warm honey tone of new teak, a periodic application of teak oil will slow the natural greying process, though many prefer to allow the patina to develop naturally.
What is the design philosophy behind Carl Hansen & Søn's accessories?
Carl Hansen & Søn approaches accessories with the same principles applied to their furniture: honest materials, considered proportions, and a commitment to objects that improve with use. Many pieces in the collection extend the vision of canonical Danish designers whose furniture the brand has produced for decades.
