Hans J. Wegner designed the CH33P in 1957 for Carl Hansen & Søn, and its quiet authority has changed little in the decades since. The chair's proportions are not incidental: seat height, depth, and rake were calculated to accommodate the body with a specificity that Wegner applied to only his most resolved work.
The curved backrest is the defining gesture. Sculpted from FSC-certified oak, it wraps the upper back with an arc that is both structural and sensory. The wood dimensions throughout are kept to a minimum without sacrificing strength, giving the chair a lightness that reads as refinement rather than reduction.
