Dagmar Mombach developed an eight-step hand-dyeing process exclusive to her practice. The technique builds color and texture in successive layers, resulting in a shade with subtle tonal variation that gives each lamp a distinct, handcrafted character.

The Wo-Tum-Bu pays homage to Isamu Noguchi's Akari series, which pioneered the use of traditional Japanese washi paper as a medium for diffused light. Mombach and Maurer extend that lineage with a contemporary dyeing process and a cocoon-like form distinct from Noguchi's lantern geometry.
