Lucellino LED - lampada da tavolo

Ingo Maurer introduced Lucellino in 1992 as a meditation on the Edison bulb, an object he treated throughout his career as both a cultural artifact and a sculptural form. The addition of hand-applied goose-feather wings transformed a functional object into a poetic one, earning Lucellino a place in permanent design collections worldwide.

Maurer's stated intention in creating the LED version was to change as little as possible. The brass wire, goose-feather wings, and overall silhouette are preserved from the 1992 original. The sole modification is the light source itself, updated to LED for energy efficiency while maintaining a warm, bulb-like quality of light.

The feathers are delicate by nature and should be kept away from direct air currents and handled with care. Gentle dusting with a soft brush is recommended. Their organic quality is precisely what gives Lucellino its character, so minor variation between pieces is expected and intentional.

The Birds family is a group of related lighting works by Ingo Maurer that share the motif of the winged bulb. Lucellino is the foundational piece, and the family has expanded over the decades to include wall, pendant, and chandelier variations. Each work explores the intersection of lightness, craft, and the symbolic weight of the electric bulb.

Lucellino functions best as an ambient or accent source. Its design prioritizes atmosphere and presence over high-output illumination, making it well suited for a desk, side table, or any setting where the quality and mood of light matter as much as its quantity.
