LC1 Esterno
Made by Cassina
Designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand

Domande Frequenti
What is the history behind the LC1 chair design?
The LC1 was designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand as part of their research into ergonomics and the relationship between the human body and furniture. It was first presented at the Salon d'Automne in Paris and remains one of the most studied examples of early Modernist furniture design.
How does the LC1 Outdoor differ from the original indoor version?
The outdoor version substitutes the traditional tubular steel frame with a painted stainless steel structure engineered to withstand exposure to the elements. The upholstery is replaced with a specialized performance fabric suited to outdoor conditions, while the essential geometry and adjustable back mechanism remain faithful to the 1928 design.
Is the LC1 Outdoor suitable for year-round exterior use?
The painted stainless steel frame and performance fabric are selected for durability in open-air settings, though as with all fine outdoor furniture, appropriate care and seasonal storage will extend the piece's life and appearance over time.
Who holds the rights to produce the LC1 today?
Cassina holds the exclusive worldwide license to produce the LC furniture collection, granted by the Fondation Le Corbusier. Each piece is manufactured in Italy under strict standards that align with the original design intent.
What fabric and finish options are available for the LC1 Outdoor?
The LC1 Outdoor is available in five performance fabric colorways, each chosen to preserve the chair's characteristic visual restraint. Frame finishes are in painted stainless steel. Specific colorway details can be confirmed through an authorized Cassina dealer.
