20 Casiers Standard, Pieds Corolle
Made by Cassina
Designed by Charlotte Perriand
The Casiers Standard carries one of modernism's most quietly radical ideas: that storage could be a system, not furniture. First conceived for the Maison du Jeune Homme at the 1935 International Exposition in Brussels, the design proposed a standardized modular unit at a moment when the notion of the interchangeable, mass-produced object was still genuinely provocative.
Cassina reissued the Casiers Standard in 2016, restoring its structural logic while introducing a refined material vocabulary appropriate to contemporary production. The 75 x 75 x 37.5 cm module remains the organizing principle. Shelves adjust across five heights, allowing each configuration to respond to its contents rather than dictate them.
The Pieds Corolle bases give this twenty-unit arrangement its particular silhouette. The splayed, petal-like feet lift the composition off the floor with a gesture that is both structural and sculptural, an acknowledgment that how an object meets the ground is as considered as anything above it.
- Standard module: 75 x 75 x 37.5 cm
- Five adjustable shelf heights per unit
- Corolle painted pedestal bases
- Part of Cassina's ongoing dialogue with the Modern Movement masters
