Viola Chair
Made by Poltrona Frau
Designed by Alberto Zattin
The Viola Chair began as a commission for the three-Michelin-star Four Seasons restaurant in Hong Kong, conceived alongside the celebrated hospitality design studio AB Concept. What designer Alberto Zattin delivered was a form that has long since outgrown its origins.
The gently curved wooden backrest flows continuously into the armrests, forming a single, uninterrupted gesture that reads as both structural and sculptural. It is a silhouette defined by restraint, confident without insistence.
What distinguishes Viola at a distance is confirmed up close. Sixty individual saddle-leather laces are woven by hand to connect the backrest to the frame, a detail that rewards careful examination and speaks directly to over a century of Italian leather craft. The dialogue between solid wood and open weave produces a lightness that allows the chair to hold its presence without commanding the room.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who designed the Poltrona Frau Viola Chair?
Viola was designed by AB Concept, a Hong Kong-based interior design studio known for its work in luxury hospitality. The chair was originally created for the three-Michelin-star Four Seasons restaurant in Hong Kong before being developed into a broader collection by Poltrona Frau.
What is the saddle-leather lace detail on the Viola Chair?
Sixty individual laces of saddle leather are woven by hand to join the curved wooden backrest to the chair's frame. This technique is a hallmark of Poltrona Frau's artisanal approach, where the leather connection serves both a structural and aesthetic function.
What upholstery options are available for the Viola Chair?
The Viola Chair is available in a range of Poltrona Frau's signature leather and fabric upholstery options, allowing it to be tailored to specific interiors. Configuration choices typically include seat and cushion materials alongside finish options for the wooden frame.
Is the Viola Chair suitable for contract or hospitality use?
Yes. Viola was conceived specifically for a high-profile restaurant environment, and its construction reflects that origin. Poltrona Frau produces contract-grade versions of many of its pieces, and the Viola's combination of durable materials and considered ergonomics makes it well suited to professional settings.
Where are Poltrona Frau chairs manufactured?
Poltrona Frau chairs are produced at the company's historic atelier in Tolentino, in the Marche region of Italy, where the same craft traditions established at the brand's founding in 1912 continue to guide production today.
