Lifesteel
Made by Flexform
Designed by Antonio Citterio
The Lifesteel is one of Flexform's most deliberate formal propositions. Its rectangular armrests rise to exactly the height of the seat back, producing a single, unbroken horizontal line that holds its composure from every angle. The silhouette is architectural without being cold, inviting without being loose.
A cowhide-upholstered frame establishes the structural character. Seat cushions filled with goose down over a crushproof core offer a give that settles and deepens with use, the kind of comfort that resists easy description but registers immediately. Back cushions follow the same calibration: goose down facing forward, a Dacron-filled bolster behind, engineered for support that doesn't call attention to itself.
The metal base is kept deliberately minimal, available in a range of refined finishes that leave the eye free to rest on the form above. Grosgrain piping traces the perimeter of each cushion, offered in matching or contrasting tones. All upholstery is removable, a practical detail resolved with the same precision as everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who designed the Flexform Lifesteel sofa?
The Lifesteel was designed by Antonio Citterio, the Milan-based architect who has served as Flexform's primary creative collaborator for decades. His work consistently pursues the reduction of form to its most coherent essentials, and the Lifesteel's single continuous horizontal line from armrest to seat back is a direct expression of that discipline.
What cushion fill does the Lifesteel use?
Seat cushions combine goose down with a crushproof inner core, a pairing that provides an initial softness that recovers its shape over time. Back cushions layer goose down on the front face with a Dacron bolster behind, calibrating support and softness independently rather than compromising between them.
Is the Lifesteel upholstery removable?
Yes. All upholstery covers on the Lifesteel are removable, a detail that addresses both long-term maintenance and the possibility of re-upholstering as tastes or interiors evolve. The grosgrain piping, available in matching or contrasting tones, is resolved with the same precision as the removable cover system.
What base finishes are available for the Lifesteel?
The Lifesteel sits on a minimal metal base offered in a range of refined finishes. The specific finish options vary by configuration, and the base is intentionally kept low-profile so that the frame's horizontal silhouette remains the dominant visual element.
How does the Lifesteel fit within Flexform's design philosophy?
Flexform, founded in Meda in the Brianza region of Lombardy, has built its identity around the idea that refined form and genuine comfort are not in opposition. The Lifesteel embodies this: every proportional decision, from the flush armrest height to the layered cushion construction, serves both the eye and the body without privileging one over the other.
