The Cestone challenges a quiet assumption in upholstered furniture: that the back and sides are secondary. Here, they are the point.
A metal frame is wrapped in woven strips of cowhide, two widths interlaced in an irregular pattern. That pattern can be tightly compact or more open, allowing the underlying fabric to surface and shift the overall composition. The contrast between woven exterior and soft interior is not accidental. Firm geometry on the outside gives way to ease within, where goose down cushions absorb the body with no resistance.
The cowhide acquires a subtle patina over time. The weave holds light differently as it ages, the surface becoming more particular to its owner and its context.
