Infinito
Made by Cassina
Designed by Franco Albini
Franco Albini conceived the Infinito between 1956 and 1957, giving form to an idea that resists obsolescence: a bookcase that grows, divides, and adapts without compromising its structural integrity. The solid wood frame, floor-to-ceiling verticals, and height-adjustable shelves produce a system that is both architecturally precise and genuinely open-ended.
Fully freestanding, the Infinito functions from either side, as a library wall or a room partition. Shelves sit alongside storage units fitted with standard or drop-down doors, allowing the configuration to shift between display and enclosure.
Cassina reintroduced the piece in 2008, applying industrial manufacturing processes to broaden the range of frame finishes and component options. Available in natural or black wood finishes, the system holds its mid-century authorship while accommodating the spatial demands of contemporary interiors.
