Philippe Malouin was born in Laval, Quebec, Canada, in 1982. He studied at the University of Montreal and ENSCI-Les Ateliers in Paris before earning a bachelor's degree from Design Academy Eindhoven. After working in London for Tom Dixon, he established his own studio in 2008. His practice spans furniture, lighting, rugs, art objects, and installations, bringing industrial rigor to an experimental process shaped by direct engagement with materials and production.
Malouin's designs often emerge through testing, reduction, and close observation of how materials behave, resulting in objects with clear construction and a strong physical presence. Projects such as the Mollo seating collection reveal his ability to turn simple materials into forms that feel generous, unconventional, and highly resolved. His collaborations include Flos, Zanotta, Acerbis, Hem, Iittala, de Sede, SCP, Established & Sons, and Marsotto Edizioni. Recognized as Wallpaper magazine's Designer of the Year in 2018, he continues to create furniture and lighting distinguished by bold proportions, tactile character, and enduring utility.
