Progettata da Marco Zanuso nel 1951, la poltrona Lady è stata una silenziosa rivoluzione. È stata tra i primi mobili a sfruttare il potenziale strutturale della gommapiuma, un materiale del dopoguerra che Zanuso, architetto di formazione, non intendeva come una novità ma come una possibilità.
Sedile, schienale e braccioli si risolvono in un'unica forma continua. Ogni elemento è portante di per sé, e l'imbottitura è inseparabile dalla struttura sottostante. Zanuso rifiutò le convenzioni decorative dell'epoca, perseguendo invece un linguaggio di precisione organica: volumi arrotondati mantenuti in proporzioni accurate, una silhouette che appare moderna e duratura allo stesso tempo.
A Lady fu conferita la Medaglia d'Oro alla IX Triennale di Milano nel 1951, un riconoscimento sia della sua intelligenza formale che della sua audacia tecnica. A decenni di distanza, rimane una delle sedie più importanti del XX secolo, un'opera in cui ricerca sui materiali e rigore scultoreo sono arrivati esattamente nello stesso momento.
