Poltrona da Esterno Carlotta

Carlotta was designed in 1967 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, the Italian husband-and-wife duo celebrated for their ability to blend sculptural restraint with genuine domestic warmth. The Scarpas created some of the most enduring pieces in Cassina's twentieth-century canon.

The primary frame is lightweight aluminum, engineered to resist prolonged exposure to sun and rain. A natural teak frame is also available as an alternative. Cushions are upholstered in weather-resistant fabric designed to maintain its appearance through extended outdoor use.

The outdoor edition preserves the proportions and composure of Afra and Tobia Scarpa's 1967 design while substituting materials suited to open-air conditions. Aluminum replaces wood for the primary structure, and the upholstery fabrics are specified for UV and moisture resistance, though the overall form and sensibility remain faithful to the original.

The chair is engineered for general outdoor environments, including exposed terraces, patios, and garden settings. Both the aluminum frame finish and the weather-resistant upholstery are selected for durability in variable conditions, though as with any quality outdoor piece, covering or storing cushions during extended periods of harsh weather will prolong their appearance.

Cassina has maintained a long and close relationship with the work of Afra and Tobia Scarpa, producing and stewarding several of their landmark designs. This continuity gives Cassina both the archival knowledge and the manufacturing authority to reinterpret those pieces with fidelity to the original design intent.
