PK80™ Daybed
Made by Fritz Hansen
Designed by Poul Kjaerholm
Poul Kjærholm believed that steel possessed the same formal dignity as any natural material. The PK80™ Daybed is one of the clearest expressions of that conviction: a taut, horizontal form held by a matt or brushed spring steel frame, its proportions stripped of everything that does not belong.
The design draws directly from the 1930 couch created by Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich, a piece that itself redefined what furniture could be in the modern interior. Kjærholm absorbed that precedent and refined it through a distinctly Danish lens, one governed by structural honesty and the quiet authority of well-chosen materials.
- Frame in brushed or matt spring steel
- Upholstered in natural canvas or optional leather
- Produced by Fritz Hansen, Copenhagen
The PK80™ entered the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, a recognition of its place not merely in furniture history, but in the broader story of twentieth-century design culture. In any room it occupies, it functions less as an object than as a statement about proportion and purpose.
