Picnic Outdoor Floor Lamp
Made by Davide Groppi
The Picnic is a study in reduction. Designed by Omar Carraglia and Davide Groppi, it draws from the tradition of the Japanese lantern and translates that quiet, contemplative light into a portable outdoor object. Accordion-pleated translucent acrylic diffuses the integrated LED with a warmth that reads as atmospheric rather than artificial.
A triangular handle at the crown echoes the body's geometry, keeping the form resolved at every angle. The angled base is what gives Picnic its character: touched, the lamp wobbles gently, sending light shifting across its surroundings in a gesture that is both playful and considered. The rechargeable battery makes it genuinely portable, needing no cord, no fixed position.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Picnic lamp truly portable for outdoor use?
Yes. The Picnic is built around a rechargeable battery, making it entirely cord-free and suited for terraces, gardens, or any outdoor setting without a nearby power source.
What is the Picnic lamp made of?
The body is constructed from translucent acrylic, formed into an accordion-pleated structure that diffuses LED light evenly while remaining durable for outdoor conditions.
Why does the Picnic lamp wobble?
The angled base is an intentional design decision by Carraglia and Groppi. When the lamp moves, the light shifts across its surroundings, creating a dynamic, atmospheric effect rather than a static pool of illumination.
Who are Omar Carraglia and Davide Groppi?
Davide Groppi is an Italian lighting studio founded on the idea that light is an emotional and spatial medium. Omar Carraglia is a long-time collaborator; together they have produced some of contemporary Italian lighting's most recognized minimal objects.
What design tradition inspired the Picnic lamp?
The form references the Japanese paper lantern, a centuries-old object associated with soft, ambient light and portability. The design translates that cultural archetype into contemporary materials and rechargeable technology.
