Loungescape Armchair
Made by Flexform
Designed by Antonio Citterio
Antonio Citterio conceived the Loungescape not as a single object, but as an environment unto itself. Its modular architecture draws cushions into a continuous, organic form, each angle of inclination calibrated to receive the body in a state of rest rather than alertness.
The defining tension of the piece lies in its raked base. What reads at first as dense, monolithic mass is quietly contradicted by the way the base lifts the form, introducing a visual lightness that shifts the proportion of the room around it. The swivel mechanism in wood and metal adds a quiet versatility without compromising the silhouette.
Cushions filled with goose down over polyurethane foam achieve a softness that holds its shape across years of use. Removable, replaceable upholstery covers allow the piece to evolve alongside its interior without requiring replacement of the whole.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who designed the Flexform Loungescape?
The Loungescape was designed by Antonio Citterio, the Italian architect and designer whose long collaboration with Flexform has produced some of the most recognized seating systems in contemporary Italian design. Citterio's approach consistently prioritizes proportion and structural restraint over ornamentation.
What fills the Loungescape cushions?
The cushions combine goose down with polyurethane foam. This layering gives the seating its characteristic softness on initial contact while the foam core preserves the shape and support over extended use, preventing the collapse that pure down filling can develop over time.
Can the Loungescape upholstery be replaced?
Yes. The Loungescape is designed with removable upholstery covers, which means the textile can be changed without replacing the cushions or frame. This allows the piece to adapt to a new interior direction or to refresh worn covers after years of use.
What is the base construction of the Loungescape Armchair?
The Loungescape Armchair sits on a raked swivel base constructed from a combination of wood and metal. The raked angle is central to the design's visual identity, creating an impression of lightness beneath the cushion mass and allowing the chair to rotate smoothly within a space.
How does the Loungescape fit within a modular seating system?
Antonio Citterio conceived the Loungescape as part of a broader seating system, where individual armchair and sofa elements can be grouped to form continuous, organic configurations. Each component's proportions are designed to read as part of a cohesive whole, so the armchair functions both independently and as an anchor within a larger arrangement.
