Patricia Urquiola looked to the Arab Majlis, the communal gathering space of traditional Arab culture, as the conceptual foundation for the Insula. The Majlis was never about furniture alone. It was about the arrangement of bodies in space, the formation of conversation, the architecture of belonging. Urquiola translated that social geometry into a modular outdoor system that invites the same openness.
The aluminum base is orthogonal in structure, its edges softened to a degree that reads as welcoming without sacrificing precision. Seat cushions are generously proportioned, built for the kind of extended outdoor presence that a daybed demands. Two seat sizes work across a wide range of backrest configurations, individual, double, and angular, allowing each composition to respond to its setting rather than dictate to it.
