Caboche Plus Table Lamp
Made by Foscarini
Designed by Eliana Gerotto and Patricia Urquiola
Patricia Urquiola and Eliana Gerotto conceived Caboche with a single, precise image in mind: the clustered brilliance of a pearl bracelet, translated into light. The result is a lamp that reads as both sculpture and atmosphere, its globe formed from dozens of individual polycarbonate spheres that catch, scatter, and multiply every photon that passes through them.
When illuminated, each sphere behaves like a small lens, sending refractions in every direction simultaneously. The effect is a 360-degree diffusion that washes the surrounding space while still delivering direct light downward and a warm reflection upward toward the ceiling. The shade is available in transparent or grey polycarbonate, two sensibilities that shift the lamp's character entirely: one airy and crystalline, the other quietly meditative.

Frequently Asked Questions
What material are the Caboche spheres made from?
Each sphere in the Caboche shade is individually formed from polycarbonate, chosen for its optical clarity and light weight. The material allows for precise refraction effects that glass would make far heavier and more fragile to achieve.
What is the difference between the transparent and grey versions?
The transparent shade produces a bright, crystalline effect that scatters light visibly in all directions, while the grey version filters and softens the output, creating a more subdued and intimate atmosphere. The choice shifts the lamp's presence significantly within a room.
Who designed the Caboche lamp for Foscarini?
Caboche was designed by Patricia Urquiola and Eliana Gerotto. Urquiola is one of the most influential furniture and product designers working today, and the collaboration with Gerotto produced a lamp that has remained in continuous production since its introduction.
How does the Caboche distribute light in a room?
The clustered sphere construction enables 360-degree light diffusion, simultaneously illuminating the surrounding environment, casting direct light downward onto a surface, and reflecting light upward toward the ceiling. It functions as both ambient and task lighting.
Is the Caboche Plus Table Lamp suitable for residential and contract use?
Yes. Its sculptural presence and omnidirectional output make it appropriate for residential interiors, hospitality environments, and design-forward commercial spaces alike. Its scale as the Plus version gives it particular authority on large consoles, sideboards, or reception surfaces.
