Braid Vase
Made by Zaha Hadid Design
Designed by Zaha Hadid
Four vertical petals rise from a single base, twisting around one another in a continuous braid that owes as much to structural engineering as it does to craft. The Braid Vase is not a decorative object in the conventional sense. It is a reduction of Zaha Hadid's architectural thinking into a form small enough to hold flowers.
Hadid, the Iraqi-born, London-based architect, spent more than three decades dissolving the right angle. Her buildings in Guangzhou, Rome, and Baku demonstrated that a structure could move, could suggest velocity even in stillness. The Braid Vase carries that same conviction. The opening at the crown is not incidental. Stems inserted there continue the vertical logic of the form, making the arrangement an extension of the object rather than a separate gesture.
- Fluid, interlocking petal silhouette referencing Hadid's parametric design language
- Proportioned to display cut flowers or stand alone as sculpture

Frequently Asked Questions
What material is the Braid Vase made from?
The Braid Vase is cast in fine resin, which allows the complex intertwining petal forms to be realized with the smooth, continuous surface that Zaha Hadid's parametric aesthetic demands. The material also gives the piece a consistent, high-contrast finish that reads well both with and without florals.
Is the Braid Vase functional or purely decorative?
It is designed to function as both. The crown opening accommodates cut flower stems, and Hadid's studio conceived the proportions so that an arrangement becomes a visual continuation of the sculptural form rather than something placed on top of it. It is equally resolved as a standalone object.
Who is Zaha Hadid Design and how does it relate to Zaha Hadid's architecture?
Zaha Hadid Design is the product and interiors studio founded alongside Zaha Hadid Architects. It applies the same parametric and fluid formal language that defined her buildings to objects, furniture, and installations. Since Hadid's passing in 2016, the studio has continued under her collaborators, maintaining fidelity to her design philosophy.
What awards did Zaha Hadid receive during her career?
Hadid was the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize, awarded in 2004. She also received the Stirling Prize twice, the RIBA Royal Gold Medal in 2016 (the first woman to receive it as a solo recipient), and numerous other honors recognizing her contributions to contemporary architecture.
How should the Braid Vase be displayed in an interior?
The vase reads strongly in isolation, on a plinth, console, or low table where its full silhouette is unobstructed. Architects and designers often use it as a focal point in minimalist or contemporary interiors, where its fluid geometry creates a deliberate contrast with planar surfaces.
