Marcel Wanders ha concepito Skygarden come una riflessione sul contrasto. La forma esterna si presenta come un emisfero pulito e imponente. Il mondo interiore che cela è tutt'altro che minimale.
Un diffusore in gesso rifinito a mano, fuso con un delicato rilievo botanico, trasforma il piano del soffitto in un giardino privato, visibile solo a coloro che vi sono seduti sotto. Il gesto è tipicamente Wanders: in parti uguali ingegno e riverenza.
Mentre gran parte del design dell'illuminazione del XX secolo perseguiva la riduzione, lo Skygarden si rifà ai soffitti ornamentali degli interni barocchi, e rende tale riferimento completamente attuale. È una lampada che premia la prossimità, offrendo un volto alla stanza e un altro, molto più intimo, alle persone riunite sotto di essa.
