2097/18 UL

Rather than concealing the light source behind shades or crystal, Gino Sarfatti exposed the bare bulb as an intentional design element. The 2097's value lies in reduction: the steel armature and open bulbs create presence through geometry and repetition, not decoration.

The 2097/18 UL is fitted with E12 candelabra-base sockets and is compatible with both incandescent and LED bulbs rated up to 15W per socket. LED equivalents are recommended for thermal management given the enclosed cluster of eighteen sources.

Chrome reads as the most architecturally neutral, receding against white or concrete ceilings. Matte black adds graphic weight and contrast, while brass introduces warmth and a more referential quality that bridges contemporary and mid-century interiors.

Given the fixture's visual mass and the spread of its arms, ceilings of at least 10 feet allow the 2097/18 to be appreciated as a whole form. In taller spaces, the adjustable cable or rod suspension can be used to position the fixture at eye-engaging height rather than pushing it flush to the ceiling.

Sarfatti is widely regarded as one of the most consequential lighting designers of the twentieth century. As founder of Arteluce and a prolific inventor of over 400 fixtures, he approached each design as an engineering and philosophical problem, insisting that the light source itself should be treated as the primary aesthetic element.
