Divano Sengu
Made by Cassina
Designed by Patricia Urquiola

Domande Frequenti
What is the cultural inspiration behind the Sengu Sofa?
The Sengu takes its name from the Shinto ritual of periodically rebuilding sacred Japanese shrines, a practice emphasizing renewal, continuity, and craft over permanence. Patricia Urquiola translated this philosophy into a modular domestic form that can be reconfigured as living arrangements and needs evolve.
Is the Cassina Sengu Sofa fully modular?
Yes. The Sengu is built around a modular system of corner, end, and ottoman elements that can be composed in multiple configurations. This allows architects and designers to tailor the piece to specific spatial conditions and client lifestyles.
What materials are used in the Sengu's cushions?
The cushions are filled with 100% recycled fiber, reflecting Cassina's ongoing commitment to sustainable production practices without sacrificing the softness and sculptural volume that define the sofa's character.
Can the Sengu ottoman be ordered with a built-in table?
Yes. The ottoman is available in two versions: as a standalone element or with an integrated low table, allowing it to function as both a seating component and a surface within the broader composition.
How does Patricia Urquiola's design approach shape the Sengu?
Urquiola consistently works at the intersection of cultural reference and contemporary function. With the Sengu, she avoids imposing a single fixed form, instead designing a system whose identity emerges from how it is arranged, reflecting her broader interest in adaptability and human-centered proportion.
