Bramante Cabinet

Kazuhide Takahama conceived the Bramante as a study in productive contrast: the solidity of a 20mm wood-composite structure clad in ash veneer set against doors in ultralight MDF, their surfaces finished in a mirror-polished lacquer that doubles the room around them. The result reads as both grounded and weightless.

Inside, three glass shelves are quietly illuminated by integrated LED lighting, a detail that reveals the interior as part of the composition rather than an afterthought. The chromatic depth of the lacquered finish shifts with the light, giving the piece a different presence at different hours.

Takahama, the Japanese-born architect who spent much of his career in Italy working alongside figures such as Marco Zanuso, brought a sensibility shaped equally by Modernist rigor and postwar Italian culture. His work for Cassina consistently explored the tension between geometric precision and warmth of material, and the Bramante carries that dialogue forward.
