Piantana Alchemie
Made by Catellani & Smith
Designed by Giulia Archimede
- Base e binario: pietra calcarea Medea
- Struttura ed elementi strutturali: ottone
- Realizzata a mano in Italia su ordinazione

Domande Frequenti
What materials are used in the Alchemie floor lamp?
The Alchemie floor lamp is constructed from natural alabaster, Medea limestone, and brass. The alabaster disc is backlit by integrated LEDs, while the Medea limestone forms the sliding track base. Each material is left largely in its natural state, allowing texture and translucency to read as part of the composition.
How does the sliding disc mechanism work?
The second disc glides manually along the Medea limestone track, allowing the user to position it anywhere from fully separated to fully overlapping the illuminated alabaster disc. The degree of overlap changes the quality and intensity of light cast into the room, as well as the visual character of the piece itself.
Is the Alchemie floor lamp made to order?
Yes. The Alchemie floor lamp is produced to order by Catellani & Smith at their atelier in Bergamo, Italy. Lead times vary and should be confirmed at the time of inquiry, particularly for projects with installation deadlines.
Who is the designer Giulia Archimede?
Giulia Archimede is an Italian designer who has collaborated with Catellani & Smith on pieces that explore natural materials and poetic form. The Alchemie collection reflects her interest in celestial phenomena as a source of design language, translating the geometry of an eclipse into a functional object.
What kind of spaces suit the Alchemie floor lamp?
Given its sculptural presence and relatively focused light output, the Alchemie floor lamp is well suited to spaces where it can be read as an object, not just a light source. Architects and designers frequently specify it for living areas, primary bedrooms, or any interior where stone and brass materiality is already part of the palette.
