Tense Table
Made by MDF Italia
Piergiorgio Cazzaniga's Tense Table achieves something quietly radical: a surface that spans remarkable distances without gaining a single unnecessary millimeter of depth. At just 35mm thick, the top reads almost as a drawn line in space.
That slenderness is made possible through a composite construction, an inner aluminum frame filled with polystyrene, sandwiched between two aluminum sheets, and finished with a 3mm panel of acrylic resin on the surface and edges. The resin itself is composed of white rock and minerals, producing a solid, non-porous surface with a presence that shifts between stone and light depending on the room.
Available in a range of rectangular and square dimensions, Tense adapts equally to the domestic dining room and the professional workspace. Office configurations include integrated cable management, keeping the table's clean geometry intact regardless of use.
Typically ships in 12-14 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the top of the Tense Table made of?
The top uses a composite construction: an aluminum frame core filled with polystyrene, clad in aluminum sheets, and finished with a 3mm acrylic resin panel made from white rock and minerals. This produces a solid, non-porous surface at just 35mm of total thickness.
How does the Tense Table achieve such a thin profile?
Piergiorgio Cazzaniga engineered the top as a structural composite rather than a solid slab. The layered combination of aluminum framing and polystyrene fill distributes load across the span, allowing the table to extend to considerable lengths without requiring additional thickness or visible supports.
Is the Tense Table suitable for commercial or office use?
Yes. MDF Italia offers office-oriented configurations of the Tense Table with integrated cable management solutions, designed to preserve the table's clean silhouette in professional settings.
Who designed the MDF Italia Tense Table?
The Tense Table was designed by Piergiorgio Cazzaniga, a Milan-based designer known for his precision-driven approach to furniture. His work for MDF Italia consistently explores the boundary between structural engineering and refined form.
What sizes are available for the Tense Table?
The Tense Table is produced in a range of rectangular and square formats, accommodating contexts from intimate dining to large-scale conference and workspace environments.
