Seasons Large Serving Tray
Made by COVO
Designed by Nao Tamura
Nao Tamura's Seasons tray begins with a leaf. Not as metaphor, but as a genuine formal reference drawn from Japanese culinary tradition, where natural forms have long served as vessels, surfaces, and gestures of hospitality. The large tray takes that reference and gives it new life in silicone, a material chosen with equal attention to process and behavior.
Silicone's flexibility allows the tray to shift and respond, holding its own sculptural presence while remaining genuinely useful. The low-energy manufacturing process is inseparable from the object's identity. Form and conscience occupy the same space here.
- Awarded the Salone Satellite prize at the Milan Salone Internazionale del Mobile, 2010
- Designed by Nao Tamura, a New York-based Japanese designer whose practice bridges industrial design and cultural narrative
- Food-safe, flexible silicone construction
- Part of a family of trays available in multiple scales
The Seasons tray functions as a serving piece, a sculptural object, and a quiet argument for the idea that daily ritual deserves considered design.

Frequently Asked Questions
What material is the COVO Seasons tray made from?
The Seasons tray is made from food-safe silicone. The material was selected both for its flexibility, which gives the tray its characteristic organic movement, and for the low-energy processes required to manufacture it, making sustainability integral to the design rather than an afterthought.
What inspired Nao Tamura's Seasons tray design?
Tamura drew on the cultural role of the leaf in Japanese mealtime ritual, where natural forms have historically served as vessels and presentation surfaces. The tray translates this tradition into a contemporary industrial material, creating an object that sits at the intersection of heritage and modern production.
Has the Seasons tray won any design awards?
Yes. The Seasons collection received the Salone Satellite award at the Milan Salone Internazionale del Mobile in 2010, one of the most recognized prizes for emerging design talent at the world's foremost furniture and design fair.
Who is designer Nao Tamura?
Nao Tamura is a New York-based Japanese industrial designer whose work bridges cultural narrative and product design. Her practice is known for translating natural and traditional references into contemporary objects that carry both functional and symbolic weight.
Can the Seasons tray be used with food, or is it decorative?
The tray is fully functional and food-safe, intended for active use as a serving piece. Its flexible silicone construction allows it to adapt in use, and its sculptural form means it reads equally well as a standalone object when not in service.
