Riflesso
Made by Cassina
Designed by Charlotte Perriand
Charlotte Perriand conceived the Riflesso in 1958, in collaboration with gallerist Steph Simon, as a study in functional generosity. Its wooden shelves, defined by softly rounded edges, carry the unmistakable influence of Japanese spatial philosophy - a dialogue between material warmth and considered form that ran throughout Perriand's postwar practice.
Like her Tables en forme, which evolved from 1930s sketches into the refined objects of the 1950s, Riflesso reflects Perriand's belief that furniture should express the nature of its material rather than mask it. The wood speaks for itself: grain, weight, and edge all carry meaning.
- Designed 1958; part of the Cassina collection since 2004
- Available in mahogany and additional finishes in the current edition
- Expanded proportions relative to the original single-size, black-finish version
- Rounded shelf edges drawn from Perriand's Japanese-influenced formal vocabulary
The updated edition preserves the spirit of the original while broadening its reach - a larger footprint, a wider palette, and the same organic precision that made the piece a landmark of postwar French design.
