Sculpted from Arolla Pine from the Southern Alps, the Galet Vases, or pebble vases, are turned by hand and torched to bring out the crackled surface texture. The vase's marbled finish then allows for the application of color to the cracks. The astonishing crackled surface of Natacha Heitz’ pieces is evocative of the Japanese Raku pottery used in traditional tea ceremonies. Her artwork is more than the object, it is the process of artistic creation characterized by harmony, respect, purity and tranquility.
- Carved from sustainably sourced wood from the Southern Alps.
- The vases' cRAKoUs or cracked texture is special to the particular wood species used when going through the torching process.
- A perfect modern vase for stems or small branches though it can stand alone as a piece of art as well.
