Carlino CM Service Storage Unit

$3,588 $4,221

Carlo Mollino occupied a singular position in twentieth-century design, moving between architecture, photography, aeronautics, and furniture with the same restless intelligence. The Carlino CM, designed in 1938, distills that sensibility into a compact, wall-mounted storage unit that feels less like furniture and more like a sculptural proposition.

Its asymmetrical composition and single pointed leg give the piece an animated, almost suspended quality. Crafted in painted wood in talc or black, the unit features a drawer running on an internal wooden guide and a back-painted glass top that adds a note of quiet refinement. Fastened to the wall, it offers discreet storage while asserting a strong formal presence.

Painted wood structure in talc or black
Drawer with internal wooden guide mechanism
Back-painted glass top
Wall-mounted installation

Mollino's furniture has long been collected alongside fine art, and the Carlino CM carries that pedigree. It brings historical depth and a distinctly eccentric grace to bedrooms, dressing rooms, and considered private interiors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who designed the Carlino CM and when?

The Carlino CM was designed by Carlo Mollino in 1938. Mollino was a Turin-based polymath whose furniture designs are now held in major museum collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

How is the Carlino CM mounted and installed?

The Carlino CM is designed to be fastened directly to the wall. Its wall-mounted configuration is integral to the design, allowing the single pointed leg to appear to float above the floor and lending the piece its characteristic animated silhouette.

What materials is the Carlino CM made from?

The structure is crafted in painted wood, available in talc or black. The top surface is back-painted glass, and the drawer operates on an internal wooden guide mechanism rather than metal hardware, preserving the piece's refined, quiet character.

Is Carlo Mollino furniture considered collectible?

Mollino's original furniture pieces regularly achieve significant results at major auction houses, with some works selling for millions of dollars. The Zanotta reissue of the Carlino CM makes his formal language accessible while adhering closely to his original design intent.

What interiors suit the Carlino CM best?

Its compact scale and sculptural presence make it particularly well suited to bedrooms, dressing rooms, and intimate private spaces where a single object can carry the visual weight of a room without competing with other furnishings.
