Mauro Pasquinelli was born on August 27, 1931, in Scandicci, near Florence, Italy. Raised around his father's furniture workshop, he learned cabinetmaking and developed an intimate understanding of wood from an early age. He studied under architect Enzo Gori at the Florence Art Institute, graduating in 1951. By the early 1960s, awards from the Trieste Furniture Fair had established him as an emerging voice in Italian industrial design, with a particular talent for seating and modular furniture.
Over the following decades, Pasquinelli became closely associated with northeastern Italy's Chair Triangle, designing more than fifty chairs for manufacturers including Pallavisini, Thonet, Potocco, Tisettanta, Calligaris, and Casprini. His work is distinguished by clean construction, measured proportions, technical resourcefulness, and an unwavering regard for comfort. The Nodo and Extra chairs were selected for the Compasso d'Oro in 1979 and 1991. In 2018, Established & Sons introduced the Mauro Chair, realizing a 1976 prototype through contemporary CNC production and returning his understated contribution to international attention.
